The steel steam trawler Tern was built 1907 in Goole by Goole Shipbuilding & Repairing Co. Ltd, Yard No 99, for Kelsall Bros & Beeching Ltd, and had was Hull-registered H.961
She was taken into service 10.14-2.15 as an auxiliary patrol vessel..

TRAWLER TERN WRECKED. Lloyd's agent at Talmine, near Tongue, Sutherlandshire, telegraphs that the steam trawler Tern, of Hull, with crew of twelve, has been abandoned off Whiters Rock Six of the Crew were saved. There is no trace the vessel yet the trawler Tern is Owned by Kelsall Bros, and Beeching. but at present under Government charter.

THE HULL TRAWLER TERN. News has been received that the Hull trawler Tern, reported as yesterday as abandoned, belonging to Messrs Kelsall Bros, and Beeching, Hull, has been wrecked off Whiten Rock, Sutherlandshire. Six of the crew 12 were saved. The owners have no details of the wreck.

HULL TRAWLER TERN. George E. Bradford (37), second engineer of the Hull trawler Tern, was lost on February 23rd, on the west coast of Scotland while engaged in mine-sweeping operations. Six the crew were saved and six are missing. Mr Bradford was married, and has left wife and two children. He lived at 6. Gladys-terrace, Walcottstreet, Hessle-road, Hull.

The victims, Alexander Douglas, Back Close, Lochside, and Fred Cargill, 34 King Street, Ferryden, belonged to the first reserve, and the official notification received stated that they had been washed overboard. MONTROSE NAVAL RESERVISTS DROWNED. Two Montrose naval reservists have been drowned in the execution of their duties. The victims, Alexander Douglas, Back Close, Lochside, and Fred Cargill, 34 King Street, Ferryden, belonged to the first reserve, and the official notification received stated that they had been washed overboard. Cargill leaves a widow and one of a family. The remains of the former, who was lost off H.M.S. trawler Tern at Loch Eribol, arrived at Montrose on Saturday evening, and were removed to his home. On Monday the funeral took place to Sleepyhillock Cemetery, and was accorded military honours. By the kind permission of Colonel Cathcart, a large company of the Highland Cyclist Battalion attended, accompanied by their Pipe Band, which played "The Flowers of the Forest" and "The Land o' the Leal." The Battalion also provided a firing party, and " The Last Post was sounded over the grave by buglers. The Rev. Hugh Callan, M.A., Parish Church, conducted impressive services at the residence of deceased and at the graveside. Douglas, who was 42 years of age, leaves a widow and young family.
