CONTRABAND CONTROL
During both World Wars vessels traveling to and from Europe and Scandinavia were required to pass through contraband control and vessels were stopped, and in some cases a Boarding Party were put onboard by a Royal Navy vessel, and then taken to one of several contraband stations around Britain. There was such a station in Kirkwall, Orkney.
Several vessels were lost or stranded while making passage to or from Kirkwall. A selection of these vessels are recorded here.
