The trawler Ivanhoe was built by Cochrane & Cooper Ltd., Beverley (Hull )in 1898 for the United Steam Fishing Co. Ltd., Grimsby and given the registration number GY 902. At the outbreak of WW1 Ivanhoe was requisitioned by the Admiralty as an auxiliary patrol vessel,

NEW TRAWLER. The new steam trawler Ivanhoe, the order of a fleet which will consist of several vessels, arrived Grimsby yesterday from Hull, and is the property the new United Steam Fishing Company, Limited. She was built by Messrs Cochrane and Cooper, of Beverley, whilst the engineers were Messrs Bailey and Leetham, of Hull. The trial trip took place yesterday afternoon, when the Ivanhoe went short distance seawards, .making 10 knots hour. Everything was considered very satisfactory.

ACCIDICNT AT SEA. — The steam trawler Ivanhoe. of Grimsby, which put into Aberdeen on Wednesday morning. reported an accident having taken place on board about eight o'clock on Saturday morning. A heavy sea was running at the time, and the vessel was about 130 miles north-east of Aberdeen. Richard Low (60). one of the crew, was in the wheelhouse. when a huge wave struck the vessel on the side. breaking the windows and part of the wheelhouse, Low was driven with considerable force by the inrushing water against the wall, and sustained injuries to his right side. On arriving -at Aberdeen yesterday morning, he was removed in the Police Ambulance to the Royal Infirmary, where he was detained

Trawler Breaks Down. As the Grimsby steam trawler Ivanhoe (United S.F. Co.) was making for the Humber Monday night her engines broke down near to the Bull lightship. To prevent her driving ashore with the strong set the tide both anchors were cast and signals raised for assistance These were responded to by the tug Solway, and the was safely docked.

The Loss
HMT Ivanhoe stranded on Kailyards rock off Leith Dock and sank. All the crew were saved.

HMT Ivanhoe has the wreck Card 4200. The wreck card was created in 1914 and stated: 11.11.14 HMS IVANHOE LIES 038DEGS, 4C FROM MARTELLO TR OFF LEITH. MASTS AND FUNNEL ALSO CHART HOUSE VISIBLE ABOVE WATER. (CAPT COMBLE RN 1918, C7712 & C7479). INS WK [OLD SYMBOL] (DRIES 14.75FT).
In 1932 the wreck was deleted from the chart and the wreck card amended to ''DEAD''
