The Loss
The SS Dana, was part of a convoy, and sailing from from Copenhagen via Lerwick to Blyth in ballast, When 15 miles east of Fair Isle SS Dana, and another steamship SS Ada were hit by torpedoes. The SS Dana was hit forward and began to sink. The torpedo had been fired by the German submarine U-61 (Victor Dieckmann).

DANA
After all ships disappeared from view, . surfaced, Went to the wreck site of the first steamer. Tried in vain to determine name. All painted white and red, even in the drifting boats no safe stop.
The one completely new boat is at Jørgensen and Sik in Grünstadt Norway built then apparently sent to Goteberg. Found drifting debris, cargo paper in packing rolls
Because of the two strong detonations, perhaps also explosives.
Went over to the steamer Dana who is still floating, although the G 7 torpedo hit in the second hold. A blast hole as big as a barn door.
Only a small cargo, apparently some cork. steamer floats on engine and boiler rooms and the three other holds. In my opinion, it was possible to bring in the steamer in the very calm weather.
Fired 11 shots into the various water-tight compartments. Steamer sunk after about 2 hours. Steamer sinks by the stern despite torpedo hit forward as a result of two waterline hits aft with artillery.
Footnote: The first steamship U 61 tries to identify from the debris was the SS Ada from Sweden.
