HMT Strathrannoch was built by Hall, Russell & Co. Ltd., Aberdeen and launched early 1917 and when lost was a new vessel. The trawler was built for the Aberdeen Steam Trawling And Fishing Co., Aberdeen as Strathrannoch (A752) but was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and put into service as a minesweeper.
.The Loss
On April 6th, 1917, HMT Strathrannoch struck a mine that had been laid the German submarine UC 31 commanded by Otto von Schrader. The mine was part of a line laid off St.Abbs Head. the trawler sank with the loss of the entire crew of 13.

HMT Strathrannoch has the UKHO Wreck Card 4219. The wreck was first added to the chart as a showing wreck in 1919.
St. Abbs Head to Aberdeen 1407 (1919) UKHO
In 1926 the wreck was amended to Non Dangerous wreck (NDW) and then in 1972 amended again to Wreck Position Approximate. (PA) in 20 meters. In 1978 this was changed to Wreck Position Approximate. (PA) in 35 meters.
In 2002 the wreck was located during a Gardline survey in position 55 54.876N, 02 06.746Win a general depth of 56 meters.

Description of the wreck by Naomi Watson ''I remember it being about 57m, bow either missing or buried in the seabed. Engine visible, stern completely clear of the seabed, rudder detached from it's lower attachment point and bent upwards at a 90 degree angle when coming up from the prop. ''

NAVAL MAN MISSING. James Bramley, R.N.R., engineman on one of his Majesty’s trawlers recently sunk by a mine, is reported missing, information to this effect having been received by his father, Mr. J. Bramley, 6, Newsham-street. Under the circumstances, and having no evidence to the contrary, the Admiralty states, it is feared he must be regarded as having lost his life. He was single, and joined the R.N.R. two years ago, before doing which he was on a cargo boat plying between Preston and other ports, He has two brothers serving, one in the R.N.R. and' the other the Border Regiment.
